Easy steps to change the Drive Letter in Windows 7,8,Vista,XP
Are you planning to change the drive letter of your disk drive or are adding a new Hard-Disk Drive or CD-DVD Drive and want to give it a new drive letter same as your name ?
You can change Drive letter of any Hard disk drive or CD-DVD Drive using this Method. This method is even applicable for the USB drives that you plug to your Computer.
Then you need to follow these steps :
Step 1 :
Go to Start >> Control Panel >> Administrative tools

Here make sure you have View by small icons activated
Step 2 :
Open Computer Management

Click the Disk Management

Step 3 :
Right click the Drive of which you want to change name.

Click Change

Step 4 :
Select the Letter you want to assign to it ( Like we chose H: replacing D: ) :

Click OK and then Yes in a new alert pop-up

Its done :

The drive letter has been changed to H.
Note: It is recommended not to change the letters of drives on which you have installed softwares.

An easier way to get into computer management is to right click on my computer (or computer in win explorer or from the start button), and click on manage. I always change the drive letter of my optical drive into Z so that no matter what external drive I plug in to my computer, my internal optical drive is always at the same drive.

thks, now can can use my drives with custom letters.
Specially assiged usb drive the last letter Y and Z because they earlier used to conflict the softwares installed on them.
